Sadly Nichelle Nichols who played Uhuru in Star Trek has died aged 89.
Always thought she was so cool and was an integral part of the show.
Her son said of her passing: 'Her light however, like the ancient galaxies now being seen for the first time, will remain for us and future generations to enjoy, learn from, and draw inspiration'.
She was one the first black actors to star in a primetime TV show when it first screened in 1966.

What a great loss

Such a fantastic role-model for all women

I watched end to end the run of TOS and then the TNG films recently, Nichelle was definitely one of the better parts of even the poor ones.

I was lucky to meet her back in 1999, lovely lady. I understand that when Whoopi Goldberg went on a tour of the ST TNG sets....one of the first people she bumped into was Nichelle, her heroine. And when she met MLK, he told her that Star Trek was the only show that his family sat down to watch together.

It was indeed, & across there, it varied State by State
Could I point you in the direction of an excellent film?
The Green Book (set in 1962)
Viggo Mortensen looks very different to his role as Aragorn, here!!

I've seen this, it's very good.

BlacKkKlansman by Spike Lee is also an eye opener.

Both films take a little liberty with the truth but the message is not lost, and the stories are out there to read and absorb afterwards.
