I went clipless and survived!...
Being 47 and 9 months into a daily commute after 20 years off, I was from the old school of "them new pedal thingy's will never catch on"
A few of the "young un's" at work said that I should try them but the thought of being inexorably clamped to my pedals in a busy commute and having to brake suddenly was brining me out in a clod sweat.
But, having been given a "free" set of Shimano M520 pedals by my LBS, I thought I'd have to at least try it so I bought some Shimano MT32's and a set of cleats, then last Sunday, I did a 25 mile warm up training sessio9n (doing the 140mile C2C in June) and what a difference.
The commute this week was so much easier even to the point that wityhout really ttrying I beat my previous home 17m30s run record by 4s - not bad for me on a 5 mile run through some very busy areas of east Newcastle.
I love them so much that I have persuaded 3 collegues to give them a try.
I couldn't go back to toe clips now!
Cheers
