I was told: "Never clean your bike with a pressure washer"

It is not the tool that does the damage but the tool holding the tool.

Anyone standing around holding their tool while I'm trying to pressure wash my bike won't be for long.

Fair enough, I thought, I'll live with the crud.

I've just watched the film "Clean Spirit", about the adventures of the Argos Shimano team in the 2013 Tour de France.

Guess what the mechanic cleaned their bikes with?

I would rather have a mechanic clean my bike as well

Why are people obsessed with cleaning their bikes? I've got a ridiculously expensive bike and give a bit of a wash down with soapy water every couple of months and a 'proper' clean twice a year at most. I just don't get it.

FWIW I don't clean my cars very often either. Had my Audi TT four months now and I've not washed it yet.

Fire is the cleanser.

Expensive things are expensive because of how they look. People buy things because of the way they look. To spend the cash and not realise that is to buy something purely for status.

In short, wash your vehicles man!

Given the bike you ride - Shame on you. It's a thing of beauty!

Make sure you clean the underside, and the die on the rear brake stay...
It's a very enjoyable "piece of stuff". Nothing more. The time I don't spend massaging it with ear buds soaked in rare unguents allows me to do other things. It's just a trade off.

And it depends how dirty it gets. I didn't bother either until I was putting in serious commute miles through the winter and it's just necessary - but I did get to appreciate how nice it looked after.

Fair point. I somehow managed to come off it within two months of buying it. A crank got a bit scarfed up. After that, I didn't get too worried about the odd scratch or a bit of dirt.

Yes, they are lovely bikes to ride.:okay:

Ive read its not good to use high pressure wash around shock seals, but low pressure no prob, I saw a photo not long ago in CW where a lady rider at the end of a CX race was being pressure washed !!
