I guess not many use the iPhone app instead using garmins or similar. I'm still using my iPhone until I purchase a garmin. Yesterday I did an update, today I've been out and practiced my local 10tt and a couple of other segments giving it the absolute beans, and recorded not very spectacular times. Has anybody had rides where they thought they were flying but got home and think that strava has been incorrect?
I know for a fact a couple of times mine has been over 30 seconds out on tt courses because I've had the official timekeeper time to prove it (I was actually quicker than it recorded) I wonder how often this happens?

I use it on an iPhone but I haven't got the foggiest if it's right or wrong, still I'm prepared to believe it's not recording my super speed  I'm not prepared to consider the opposite:headshake:;)

I use strava on an android phone. When I ride with a guy with a garmin he is always recorded as faster than me not much a few seconds here and there and his elevation is always better. Dosn't bother me as I always use strava so if its inaccurate I get the same inaccuraticty each time and I only really compare my own times. I believe phones check sat signal every few seconds but garman is connected constantly

I've found the opposite in that my mates running the app always come up faster for the same ride.
Maybe it depends on the model of garmin?

That's my friends strava details using a HTC android phone. (See photo)

Obviously the iPhone is a lot better, but there will be errors using any form of non military GPS.

GPS accuracy depends on sampling rate. On a Garmin you can change it so it samples more often than a phone and is therefore more accurate. You can though have it setup to sample less often and make it less accurate. Ultimately a dedicated GPS device is going to be better than a phone.

I use the iPhone Strava app (pre Garmin like you ;) ) I can't say that it is inaccurate per se but I am sure that a Garmin or similar would be more accurate. I'm with @13 rider that mine will be consistently inaccurate

It would be interesting to do some of my routes on the Garmin and then compare to see what they state.

This was a club TT back in the summer, over an 8 mile course strava was a massive 47 seconds slow! The CCS Brent Eleigh tt course is the segment and the official time from the stopwatch is at the top. My phone usually records this tt reasonably accurately, not this time.

You do get strange anomalies with strava and mobiles . mate once did a 10 mile loop strava average was 27mph top speed was 25mph :banghead:average should have been 15 mph route perfectly mapped but no segments .on holiday this year in Cornwall I did a last hill climb just to pr it again ride perfectly mapped but no segments at all recorded
