I've just registered for this forum and it just so happens that I took delivery of a handlebar mount for my iphone 3gs from Amazon today. It is the Amzer iphone bike mount and cost £24.95. It is a little expensive but I'm more interested in the safety of my iphone when it's on the handlebars. I've now put it on my bike and it clamps on perfectly and holds my iphone safely in the cradle slot with a rubber clamp at the top. The mount itself is fully adjustable and screws tight to keep it in place. There are a few cycle apps on the apps store but I chose the "cyclemeter" on account of the good reviews. The GPS works well on it but I've not yet been able to fully test the other functions. Now I've got the bike mount, I'll be able to do that. Hope this helps.

Newbie here too. I recently bought the Tigra bike console from the Apple shop. Pretty expensive at £39.99, but it works well and protects your iphone from the rain. Although designed for the 3G and 3GS it works just fine with my iphone 4. The clip that holds down the cover seems pretty secure, but for extra protection I slide a cable tie over the bottom of the case to keep it closed in the event that the clip somehow opens. I keep the cable tie inside the case when I'm done ready for the next time. I too am using cyclemeter, but I believe there are other good apps out there.

I've been lured into the MapMyTracks app (£2.99) that the Sky Team advertised - not used it in anger yet so we'll see about it.

On the cradle front, I'm after the above, but wasn't expecting to shell out £40 for it! There must be cheaper ones on the market without compromising on safety of the device. Plus, I saw this review on another site:

I saw those reviews too before I bought mine, hence the additional cable tie security, but after a couple of weeks usage I have no complaints. Out in the pishing rain today and the ipod was dry and secure. I think the clips as designed are pretty good and can't see them coming undone if properly fastened, but with the addition of a zip tie or some elastic bands there's absolutely no way it's going to go wrong.

Based on your comments then Bobones, I may just have to purchase and partake!

Cheers for that.

I used mine in anger for the first time. I'm pleased with it. Was good to find an iPhone 4 specific mount in the box.

£40 seems a lot, but a bouncing iPhone is a lot dearer.

Mine came yesterday - fitted, but not used yet. I'll post a report tomorrow. It's either going to be 'iPhone4 smashed' or extermely positive!

I was thinking of testing the casing in the shower first.

Tried and tested this - in the shower first to test it's waterproofability! PASSED! Kept it under the shower for at least 1 minute and no water got into the cage.

It mounts easily and has a 360 degree turn.

Your device is easily usable whilst n the cage.

I've used on several runs to work now, and it more than takes the odd pothole. Can't say anything for MTB routes.

I've attached two rubber bands just for save keeping - I'd heard that the clip it comes with can spring open.

It is difficult to see the screen when in sunlight - but that's the only downside.

I got mine from eBay at £27.99

Hope this helps - BinBag

I don't have an I phone I got the HTC hero, which I could not get a mount for it.
I bought a universal one that cost me 9.99 off e-bay.
You can ajust it to any angle, but can only be used In fine weather, no good in the rain
But it does the job, and it could hold an iphone
