Hi, I'm using strava on my I phone and am thinking about buying a speed/cadence sensor to connect it to. I've got a bar mount for the phone, but when using strava on the move will the phone keep going into "sleep" mode with a blank screen (even though strava is still working) or will the screen stay active as it does in "sat nav mode" ? Do I need to adjust my settings? Cheers, justin.

The problem with using a phone is battery life..... keep the screen on and mine does about an hour maybe a tad more but not much. Knock the screen off to extend the battery life and you record the ride but lose the motivational aspect, if you knock the screen brightness right down so you can just see it and you might get a bit more time.

I use map my ride on my phone at the moment, got 46 miles into a 50 mile ride and it gave up the battery from 100%. Mare. Looking at getting a Garmin Edge 200 when payday comes and the Mrs isnt looking.

Thanks for the replies, was just looking at battery/charger packs on amazon, you can pick them up for under £15.

I have an ANKER charger pack. It is good but its just another item of junk to carry around with you!
My phone, secondary battery and purse fit quite happily in a topeak tri bag

You ride a Sirrus, it's hardly going to make much difference to the weight of the bike

I have got a little bag on my crossbar which is allegedly waterproof/resistant. Havent tried it in the wet but If it was tipping it down I would get off and stuff it up my top. ^_^

I have the topeak weatherproof bag/mount, but the issue would be fitting a lead, you would have to make a hole in the bag!

My iPhone worked fine......for around 90 minutes before the battery ran out from a full charge!

I now use an Edge 200 which is perfect for basic ride data and strava uploads. The battery life is also excellent and has been more than enough for some 6 hour rides

I use a Garmin 200 now as well if the O.P needs a hrm then a Bryton rider 20 can add one iirc and the units at about the same price just add another £20-£30 for the hrm add on
