Hi guys just got a Cannondale Badboy and was looking at the steel roped locks. than saw a thread on here and saw recommendations for a mini D-Lock. Ive seen these on ebay and looking to buy. also i would like it to be as lightweight as possible as i would be carrying in a rucksack and dont really want to mount on the bike.

Please Help

I have one of these. Got it on some special offer for £23 iirc. There are lighter d locks but they're even smaller. This one's occasionally awkward to fit to poles etc due to size but then small = strong. I'm replacing it soon with a cable such as a Kryptoflex 1565 as the d is heavy, 900g. Weight = strength but I don't live in London but Edinburgh and my bike doesn't look as good as it is.

remember you have to carry that weight... and I think I've read somewhere that small ones are better as with bigger Dlocks thieves got more space to do what they want...

Hi guys just got a Cannondale Badboy

That's about £800 worth of bike right? Nice bit of kit for sure and I'm sure plenty of thieves would think so too. Seriously now, do you want to keep it locked up? I mean, if it needs to be locked then I'd assume you're not around to look after it. If I had a bike like that, it wouldn't leave my side/sight. If it is out of sight and the locks work then it won't stop all your group set being pinched. Meh, bloody thieves!

I had a Raleigh dyna tech frame from the 90s that I was doing up whilst being a student in Glasgow. I kept it indoors when I went to my part time job thinking it would be safe. Come on, nobody is going to enter the building and pinch the bike. Wrong! Still gutted about that loss. The next day in defiance I bought a Kona Fire Mountain which I rode today.

...and they don't need much time either....some do it for a living remember, so chances are if they want your bike they're going to get it.

You want a D-lock to be as small as possible but still useful. For instance it'd be completely pointless trying to use my Kryptonite Fahgettaboudit Mini with my felt MTB as it would seriously limit how I could lock my bike up, however on my fixie (& to a lesser extent my b'man hybrid) it's perfect as the clearances are so small the frame would be swimming the standard sized lock,

My mini fagh just about fits my fixed road bike through the rear triangle and sheffield stand - no room at all and takes some 'positioning' to lock it.

Don't forget, use two types of lock, a d and a chain for example. You could leave the chain on the rack.
