I know this question must get asked all the time, But
Basicly, i want to get a bike, but i don't know what type, what make, and whats a good deal.

So i think i tell you abit about my cycleing experiance and what i want it 4, and maybe some one can point me in the right dierection.
Last summer, i bought a hybid for 15 euros. it was the best 15euros ive ever spent. i thought i just wanted it to cycle around town, but i found id do all day epics, exploreing southern france. (where i lived) id do 100/140k trips involing gaining over 1000m in elvation. but the lycica bregaid use to hum past me in the nasa cycleing machines, and i becan to wonder, what id be able to do on one of these bueaties, not as much as theses (carfs like trees, been cycleing all their life, every day) frenchies, and I talians, but still,

so what i want my bike 4 is
1st, to cycle to work, 12/15 miles one way
2nd to explore, all day cycle rides, (now in the uk, so no more mountains, unfortualy)
3rd, may be a triathon. at the end of summer, just an experiament this year, or next
4th, may be a 4 or 5 day tour some where, ive got some ideas, but i dont want to carry all my gear ( like the idea of going fast) so it would have envole roping in a suport vehicle (is this cheating)

So basicaly. if someone who has the time and the passion to reply and point me in the right direction. do i want a racing bike (which ive thought ive always wanted,) or a touring bike, or even hybrid.
dont want to spend much more than £500
if u could surgest some bikes i can reseach, i d be very appricateive. don't havew much money, so gotta get the right bike.

thanks 4 taking your time in reading this

Hi Martin2222 and welcome!

Thanks for sharing your experience and needs.
I'm gonna jump in with some suggestions as follows;

If you're happy with drop bars then I think this is the best way to go, particularly for Triathlon's and lightweight 'Credit-card' fast touring. Drop-bar skinny tyre bikes look a bit fragile for commuting, but believe me they do the job very well.
You also need a bike that has provision for mudguards and a light rack (you can't carry 'touring' loads though). Fortunately, such bikes exist these days. £500 just gets you into the bottom rung of decent road bikes, take a look at Trek, Giant, Specialized, Bianchi, and check they have mudguard eyelets and rack mounting points. From memory most will now. A large saddlebag is a good alternative to a rack for credit card trips and that's my preferred method. Gearing wise, go for a Triple chainset for greatest flexibility.

A quick audax bike like the Ribble.

It will take mud-gaurds, panniers and cope with a light tour vut strip off all this rubbish and it's quick enough to mix it with the best of them.

The Ribbles start at about £550 I think. I have the Audax/Winter frame (Sloping TT version) but there are no mountings for a rack on the seat stays only mudguards.

Hi Sittingduck
According to the photo there are seat-stay mountings. P-Clips would work in any case.

It might be worth looking at the Trek FX 7.3 a good all rounder, sturdy bike.
