Hi all.
I'm probably starting with a similar story to most of you,
Rode bikes as a child, stopped when I got a motorbike/car.
Had a MTB about a decade ago, but it didn't get used like it should.

I'm now living somewhere really flat and I quite fancy the idea of a road bike.
After a bit of research (google, obviously) I realise I have no idea what anyone is talking about (to me, cassettes go in stereos).. ;)

Now.. Just so you know - I'm an outdoors-y kind of person. Wild camping, pointy mountains, that kind of thing...
I used to be quite active on walking forums. So.. I know that when a newbie comes on, the first thing they ask always translates to "I've seen two pieces of kit, one is five grand, the other is £4.99... Is the cheaper one as good?"

I'm trying to be a bit more constructive with my question.
I've seen the B'Twin Triban 300 gets good reviews for its price (currently £280).
But the next model up, the Triban 500 is £350...
I can afford the 300 before winter sets in. The 500? Well.. I'll be riding in the dark.

As I haven't ridden a racer in over twenty years and my budget is already stretched.. Is the Triban 500 worth the extra?
Would I really notice the difference (and what are the differences? - Other than being a black frame, which tbh does appeal..)

Any help appreciated,

Jub2k.

Hi Jub2k, I am not that familiar with the Tribans but I bet the folks on this thread could help you out.

Hi
Go with the Triban 500. It has carbon forks where the 300 doesn't (unless it's a red one). They are great bikes and I heartily wish that they had been around when I first started riding seriously again.

We ride in flat territory in Norfolk. I like flat
