but after trawling the forum I can't find anything specific to my question so hoping someone can offer some advice. Looking at a Wilier Montegrappa as a first bike. My idea is to start on the flatter roads of Shropshire before eventually getting into longer rides and probably some peak district style climbs at some point (when ive got half an idea what I'm doing)

There aren't really any reviews of this bike but I know they're well made - its between that and a trek of slightly different spec (105 Groupset) but aesthetically the Wilier is the one.

Anyone got any advice on which may be better for my opener?

Go for whichever on 'floats your boat' the most, I think you'd have to try hard to get a 'bad' bike!
If you like the look of it you'll want to ride it more. You'll always want to upgrade bits, that's just the way it is.
I've got a trek, I like it, I like the idea of the warranty but I've never had to use it (I know of others who have had replacement frames with no probs re warranty) It's got 105, its a good bike - no idea about the Wilier.

OK, just felt a little like aesthetics should be way down the list of my decision making process but yep, I'm more likely to add than change if i like it to start with!

Thanks!

The real answer is to ride them both (not always easy) and pick the one you like the best, but I reckon as long as the bike fits you'll be good to go with either.

Don't forget to post the pic when you get it ^_^

Can't post an album of my own yet, maybe due to low post numbers. Nor can I post it up here as it's too large

Any techno-savvy folks want to help so it's not forever anonymous??

If you open the image you want to post in Photoshop and "save as" under a new file name it'll also give you the option to save it as a smaller file size. That's what I usually do when I want to post one of my better quality images.

Someone will probably know a better method though.

I think aesthetics are very important. I definitely want a bike that looks good. If I feel good I feel more confident and that helps me in all walks of life not just on a bike.

Obviously specification is the first criteria but don't be embarrassed about the idea of buying a bike you also feel looks great.
