To be honest most of the drivers I encounter are very civil and well behaved and most of their driving is safe as well.

Sure. But how many idiots does it take to kill you?! I recon I'll get one very close pass or deliberate abuse incident on almost every trip.

Don't get me wrong, I probably have at least one close call a day. But then I'm cycling in amongst hundreds of cars every day, so the percentage is very low. As you implied it only takes one idiot to actually kill you.

That's the problem I face. In Nottingham near Canning Circus the council were inspired to mess about with the lane markings. After weeks of the left lane going off left and the right lane opening to two lanes (3 lanes total) they changed it back so that the left lane opens to 2 lanes and the right one goes straight on.

Loads of car drivers get confused. Its not difficult follow the white line and look at the big red signs which tell you the road markings have changed. But at least once a week someone doesn't pay attention. This morning case in point.

However I ride accordingly. That's not to say I didn't point out the error of Ms R Reg Mondeo driver today. Didn't swear just shouted loud enough so she knew what she had done - actually most of the pedestrians walking around turned to see what I was going on about.

Its a tough one really its a minority of drivers that are the problem. But too its a minority of cyclists who jump red lights etc (like the guy that nearly had me off on Wednesday - muppet).

The biggest hassle we have that if one of the minority hits you at best you are going to be sore, worst you are in hospital or dead. But car drivers don't think about that.

I really don't let it get to me. A car driver would really have to endanger my life in order for me to have a go at them.

I agree with this.
It is mostly the 'professional' drivers who cause the most difficulty in my experience - but generally, you know what they are thinking, what they are going to try next...and avoidance of situation is straightforward.

I just wish there was some sort of adequate remedy for those texting or playing with phones while driving - oh I wish! Yesterday, I wasn't doored but three times I passed people stepping out of their cars, followed by the plasticky clunk of a forgotten mobile pinging onto the floor.
Not saying that they were being used of course - just on the driver's laps for comfort etc...;)

ferking bar steward in a van, needed to learn to read, as he drove towards me. I'm in the middle of the road, it's my priority, and he'd already let the 2 cars not 20 ft infront of me through.
But was I allowed through???
Was i f*ck, he drove straight towards me, with no intent to stop or reverse back. To55er!
