Hi

I'm not sure where else to post this message, but I'm looking for some advice on where to find people to ride with.

I live near Lambourn in Berkshire and I'm looking to be out approx 3 times a week doing distances of between 20 and 30 miles.

I'm currently riding a hybrid, and feel a little intimidated by the clubs in the area, hence this post.

On a run of about twenty miles over undulating terrain I usually push an average of 14mph over sixteen on a flat route. But I want to do this more often and get faster so I can do some cyclo sportives.

Any advice would be muchly appreciated.

Marco have you tried an internet search for clubs near you. Its a good way to get out on rides and meet others.

Hi Addict

Thanks for the response. I haven't been riding for long so I'm a little intimidated by clubs. What kind of levels do they cater to. Also I don't have a proper road bike using a hybrid.

Have a look at the CC and informal Rides, Clubs, and Events section and join some of us for a ride. You may need to travel a short distance but you'll meet some friendly, helpful and accommodating people.

Reading Cycle Campaign used to arrange informal rides - I went on one and there were all sorts of bikes there from road bikes to 3 speed commuters - very friendly.

It may be worth checking if the local council runs any "Get Active" type schemes. They do round here and there is a cycle group as part of it. It certainly introduced me to cycling very well and although I still do them I've moved on to the leisure rides with the local cycling club too.

I'd second this, check the rides bit in this forum and YACF, there are regular meets arranged. All the ones I've been on have been sociably paced, your current level is plenty adequate. This won't meet all your needs but will get you meeting, and chatting to, other regular cyclists. All sorts of possibilities open up once you put yourself about a bit.

Newbury Road Club rides start 0900hrs Sundays from Newbury Market Place.
If you want to get faster and stronger, go riding with people who are faster and stronger than you.
Pm me, I live local to you.
