Titan yer tummy

No meatings b4 dinner!
Having got back into cycling about 10 years ago, when I got my bike out of skip and had it done up, I have now amassed just about everything I could possibly require to make my cycling enjoyable:

new bike thro Cycle to Work, lights, computer, helmets, hats, mufflers, gloves, jerseys, waterproofs, trousers/tights, shoes.

You name it I've got it.

I can't even be bothered to look at the cycling catalogues and websites any more. I just don't want anything!

Anyone else?

pretty much. Actually I've got a lot more than I want, and really should get rid of some stuff that I'm keeping for some hypothetical 'rainy day'

For clothes yes, couple of good runs into Aldi/Lidl has left me well stocked, I always check the 'found a bargain do tell' thread though

When I run out of ideas for new kit or bit's for the bike I hit the book shops so no, never stop finding ways of buying things to do with cycling and the charity shops get all my old read books so everyone's a winner!

I started cycling last year and have been gradually building things up. I have lots of cheap things - that are variable in quality, but will gradually be replaced with better quality things. Particularly annoying have been lidl / aldi computers and lidl bib longs - very warm and toasty - but totally spoilt by the pad being in the wrong place.

I'm also hitting a patch of repacement/ repairs on both bikes. This week I have bought
MTB:
New rear axle - old one had snapped.
New chain plus quick link- decided old one was worn.
new freewheel - hasn't arrived yet - as new chain is slipping on highest gear.

Road Bike:
Both wheels trued
Fitted new back brake blocks, though I bought them a while ago, complicated by brakes being tiagra with all-in-one pads, and for better ones you need cartridge holders.
Ordered new chain - after experience with mtb I want to change it in time before wrecking cassette.

So I don't think I'm likely to stop buying anytime soon. I hope it doesn't take me 10 years though!

I got sucked into cycling without recognising the costs, but it certainly isn't as cheap as it first appears.

Excellent, so if you have everything you want/need, then there's no excuse - out on the bike you go and either break or wear something out through regular obsessive and excessive use.

I'm getting there, bikewise I have a clear idea of what I still need and I've also been building up a stock of consumables. Things like tyres, tubes, cables inners/outers, chains, etc.

Racks, mudguards, luggage, attachments, pumps and toolkits I'm pretty much there, actually have a lot of it in triplicate so that each bike can have it's own stuff sitting on it.

Tools - I've gradually built them up and there are only a couple I still want.

Despite having good lights, both battery and dynamo, my head still gets turned by new lights.

Clothing - this is the one area I'm still lacking and only really because I refuse to buy too much until I'm the sort of weight/shape I want to be. Plus most of the stuff I really like either doesn't come big enough or is too form fitting for serious consideration at present. I have a long list of stuff mainly in merino and merino blends plus some technical outer shell stuff. But this includes casual wear with a bike bias as well as more bike technical stuff.

This. I assumed that by cycling to work I would save the full £180 a month that I used to spend on my travel-card. Its been rare for me to spend less than £50 a month and on some months over £100.

Off the top of my head, here are some expenses:

Arpil - the bike and a number of accessories that used all of the £1000 c2w voucher
May - new front wheel and saddle (after I was knocked off the bike)
June - 2x cycle shorts, shoes and pedals
July - nothing memorable, though I'm sure there were a couple of things e.g. tubes, tools
August - replacement rear wheel after buckling the original
September - rainproof jacket and trousers
October - winter gloves, additional lights, rear tyre
November - new chain, cassette and middle ring (all were worn out)

Granted, I'm averaging over 100 miles a week so you expect some wear and tear, but I didn't think I'd spend almost almost as much as the bike is worth in the first year on replacement parts and accessories. Even buying as much as I can on eBay, which is significantly cheaper than shops, the accessories that you need to commute quickly add up.

However, like you, I doubt I'll spend that much next year now that I have most of the clothes and accessories. I'll probably buy another, lighter, set of wheels to use for club runs at the weekend which may set me back over £200, but this is more my choice than a necessity.

Hopefully I won't allow myself to buy another bike
