I got a helmet cam ...

In case anyone missed my delighted posts about it, my wonderful OH bought me a helmet cam for Christmas. I wasn't expecting it at all because I'd never even mentioned my desire to own one, so it was a wonderful surprise.

I've been out with it a couple of times now, and have uploaded the (edited) videos to YouTube. They're both done with the camera on the bar mount because I need to get a new helmet to mount it on - don't want to put the mount on my road helmet because it's fiddly to take on and off, and I don't want to look like an idiot riding on the road with a camera mount on my head! The first video I made is also a bit weird because I had the camera mounted sideways - amateur!

Today's ride is all on fire roads, so it's non-technical (although pretty rocky in places, and the first climb was very hard), but the views are spectacular. Here's the video:

Thanks, guys. Yes, I know I'm very lucky because I have amazing MTB and road rides on my doorstep. (We chose to live in this town for the road riding, and had no idea it would be perfect for MTBing as well.)

It's a Contour ROAM2. I don't know how they compare to other helmet cams, but I'm very happy with it. I haven't looked at the price online, but my OH said there are "better" ones - presumably lighter, more features, not sure - that cost over £300. The only negative thing about it is that it ships with a very small 4Gb memory card, so I'm having to be careful not to leave it running for too long until my 32Gb one that I ordered from Amazon comes.

She also bought me a helmet mount that secures through the vents in the helmet, and a "universal" bar mount that's supposed to fit any bars. There wasn't enough room for any of the rubber pads when I fitted it on the centre part of my bars, and I didn't want the plastic mount directly in contact with the bars, so I put a piece of old inner tube underneath, which worked fine. The camera mounts sideways on the bars, which is how I ended up with my first video shot sideways - you have to turn the lens - and there's also a screw fixing on the underside, which I assume is to mount it on a tripod.

there is a couple of things I don't recognise - part way thorugh the video I see this black figure in front of you on the ground and at other times there is a mysterious brightness that I vaguelly recall seeing in the times before The Rains.

Yes I was very disappointed in the video, although the car overtaking on the opposite side of the road would have been classed as close by some people, no shouting "Oi" or "cock", you are going to have to try harder to annoy people & get yourself into situations where you can blame the car driver for your mistakes. But other than than I am very jealous of your surroundings.

I had a camera but as my rides are on pitch black lanes it seemed pointless, you might see the rear lights of the car receding after it knocked me off and thats about it
