I'm trying to concentrate at work after being away on a 15 day overseas business trip. I visited seven cities in SA, Zambia, Ethiopia, Sudan and Egypt, took 11 flights, three so early I had to get up at 01:00 or 02:00, missed a connection and got marooned in Addis for 24 hours where I didn't sleep for one minute thanks to the 8300 ft altitude, delayed my return home by 2 days and finally got home at midday on Sunday. Since then I've been feeling pooped and unable to concentrate.

Is it because I'm nearly 53 or was that a fairly tiring schedule by any standards? Tell me I ought to take Friday off at least.

A friend of mine had similar punishing schedules, normally scheduled for a UK return on Friday, then had to catch up with the housework and her son's exploits at school and socially over the weekend before going back to work on the Monday morning.

Lie in bed, face up. Lift you bike up above you, so that you are in a riding position with the bike wheels up, and lie there, cycling away.

I used to work for Hi-Tec Sports many moons ago and used to service (not literally) one of the sales managers who had the Africa account. He was about 44. Surprisingly the company used to do quite well selling rubber soled boots to many of the African countries. Mostly to their armies and police. Anyhoo, this guy used to spend a lot of time in Africa and returned from one of his quarterly sales trips feeling particularly run-down and out of sorts. He was dead within a week, having picked up some bug or parasite.

Look after yourself RR on these trips.

R-R - good on you for having such an interesting work schedule!

By comparison, my working life's very mundane.

My 'punishing' schedule involves a 5 mile cycle commute every day of the week. I never get sent on trips anywhere with my work. I sit at the same desk every day with the same view from the window.

One thing we have in common though - I feel knackered too by the end of the week.
