Well, it took me a while to get there but today I cycled 54.5 miles down the the coast (Hemsby) and back (Norwich). My previous longest distance was 35miles.

Had the benefit of a nice wind helping us get there but obviously on the way back it was a little bit of a struggle as we where against the wind all the way home. But amazingly when we got back I felt fine, and I think I could have gone another 10-30 miles with relative ease

What a difference 6 months makes. When I started cycling again after 5 years of doing next to nothing I struggled with 6 miles - that took me 45 minutes, mnow I know I can do that in less than half that time

Roll on a 100

Congrats!, that's a great achievement!

I'm hoping to get to almost 20 tomorrow, so 54 is really good going

Thanks for the encouragement. I recently started and 10 miles in 70 mins seems good right now

Well done!
I know the feeling well. I started last April after 27 years of doing not very much.
The first 5 mile ride was a struggle. Since then I've cycling 4000 miles. This year I've done a 108 mile ride and 2 rides of 84 miles each in the past 7 days.
For me the important thing was to keep cycling as much as possible over the winter so you don't lose hard earned fitness.

Just a thought but if you can do 50+ a few times then you are ready for 80-100 and the issue becomes motivation rather than core fitness.
Sign up for an event of that distance and the sense of occasion and riding with a large group will carry you round.
At least that worked for me.

Nice one. I think you could do a century now if you didnt rush it. Dont bother with organized rides , do your first 100 on a rouite you plan yourself then ride alone or with friends

+1 to doimg as much as possible in winter. It is hard to get motivated in the cold /wet/ icy. Ideally get some rollers , a turbo or an excersise bike for the really crap weather. If your not minted therse usually loads on gumtree/ ebay etc .

We got a £ 250 pound ex bike for £50.

It seems our friends in Wales are softer than their Irish cousins. Don't go out in the ice and snow otherwise, buy a coat
