Hyrdaulic brakes

My bike is around a year old now and within the last my my rear brake has started to fail, I have to pull the lever right up to the handlebar (the front is ok). Could this be that the pads need replacing, or will it be the hyrdraulics needing work to?

I have never worked on hydraulics before so not really looking forward to that

Might need bleeding = but the most likely cause is that the pads are shot. Check how much breaking surface is left in the pads, and if needed stick some new ones in.
