Hi All,
Is there such a thing as hydraulic disc brakes that are suitable for a single speed bike?
I don't yet have a single speed bike and at the moment I commute on my Trek 7.1FX hybrid which is from around say 2006 or 2007. However I'm saving towards a replacement the Trek when I can afford it.
One type of bike for my commute that I'll be considering is something along the lines of say the Genesis Day One Disc single speed bike.

Whilst getting completely soaked in the deluge being dumped on me whilst commuting home today my brain just started thinking about types of disc brakes. This is because on my commute home today I had to pass through several flooded roads whereby my rims were completely submerged under water which will have covered them in all sorts of grime which doesn't really assist the V rim brakes on my Trek.
This just got me thinking about disc brakes. I know that they'll be lots of opinions about cable operated versus hydraulic disc brakes but that isn't the point of this post because I know that topic will be covered in lots of other threads.
I was just thinking that I've seen single speed bikes that come with cable operated disc brakes but not hydraulic ones. Now I was thinking that there might be quite a few reasons for this and some of these might include for example:-

- Single speed bikes tend to be pitched at a certain price point and so fitting one with more expensive hydraulic disc brakes for sale doesn't necessarily make sense for a manufacturer;
- This thought may show a complete ignorance and lack of understanding on my part for the various components involved in a hydraulic disc braking system however I wondered whether or not hydraulic disc brake levers are available for single speed bikes? The reason that this thought popped into my mind I was thinking that the hydraulic disc brake levers that I've seen all seem to be for geared bikes in a combined brake lever/gear shifter. However I'm not technical so this thought might be utter nonsense if I've completely misunderstood the various parts of a hydraulic disc brake system.
