I might be needing to get a new commuter . ( don't ask ! but I am not hurt ) I have seen a few very nice ones with reasonable spec . they have shimano Hydraulic disc brakes. anybody got any opinions on shimano hydraulic brakes.

I had avid on my MTB and they were great- no Problems at all.

No but if they're anything like SRAM rival they'll be great

I have them and they are great so far, only done 1000 miles but thus far problem free and wonderful to use compared to the cable ones I have had in the past. The bikes Ultegra but pretty sure the Hydros just come in Di2 or Cable shifters as the two versions.

From deore level upwards they are very good for mountain bikes and hybrids. I have the r785's on my road which are also very good. The difference to cable discs is the greater power, better control and little maintenance needed if at all.

Shimano's flat bar hydraulic discs are among the company's better products.

Even the cheaper ones are reliable and work a treat.

I've no idea about the drop bar ones, but a reasonable assumption would be they are just as well-sorted.

Is it the 105 roadie groupset that is now full hydraulic?

My local bike shop told me they work fine, but bleeding is more of a faff than the Shimano hydraulics with flat bar levers.

It's for flat bars. Thank you.

I also need to wrap my recently calibrated torque wrench round the test house testers head. As it no longer works on a left hand thread. Can you guess what might be banjaxed on my current commuter.
