Hi,

Wondering is anyone could advise me..

Tomorrow Ill be cycling a 80-85miles Supportive - never covered that kind of distance, Id like to do it in a good time, only stopping for essentials, and not stopping for too long.

Ill be taking 2 x 750mm bottles and its really a question about what to fill them with.

I have some of those tablets ("go hydro", i believe they are similar to High5). Is says on the back to add one of these to every bottle of water.

Now lets say I refill those bottles 5 times, would I be right/wrong to use tablets every time I refill the bottles?. Or is there enough stuff in one tablet to just keep in one bottle which I can make last the entire 80miles and use my secondary bottle as my goto water bottle?

Sorry for being a little green. I have in the past done quite a few 50s and for that a couple of bottles have been fine, Im just a little worried that at 80odd miles I might find it too hard if I don't hydrate/keep my energy up.

As long as you appreciate those are 'hydration' tabs and will not provide you with energy. Not sure you will get through 7.5 litres on an 80-miler - that's rather a lot...

Each individual's needs are different. I have a friend who would probably ride 100 miles on just one 750 mL bottle unless he was riding quickly or it was a very warm day. OTOH, I would currently get through four 750 mL bottles of carbo-drink and probably also a coffee and a 500 mL bottle of Coke during a century ride.

I need to drink more when I am unfit and/or overweight and/or it is a warm day and/or I am riding quickly. When I lost weight and got fit, my fluid intake needs for a given distance, speed and weather conditions reduced by about 40%.

I would assume that you need three-four 750 mL bottles during your ride. You might end up with some drink left over at the end, but that is way better than running out with 20 miles to go!
