Having developed a fluid leak past the piston, I discovered it had a crack through it. Has anybody used the "fine quality" replacement pistons from China (metal).

Loathe to buy a new caliper, if I can get away with it

How old is it - 2 year warranty with Shimano and often they go above and beyond that too.

just over 2 year, plus I have crucified the old ceramic one getting it out. Also as I have no +1 bike, need the quickest fix poss!

Just get any shimano caliper of ebay.
There all similar,just check the pipe fitting ie olive or banjo tho i think shimano are all olive compression type bar some mtb fitments

I'd be tempted to do both. New caliper for quick fix, then order a piston and repair the old one at leisure. Then at least you have a spare caliper kicking around if needed.
