Hybrids all around but which to choose??

Hi all

Need some advice on the best model to go for, I commute daily all year round but have only used one bike which is now beyond repair so still don't know much. I do 10 miles per day on roads but with gradiants, plus cycle paths on weekends, but often do a lot more miles. I frequently push the speed and max out on the 24 gears I have but want to do more and have started pulling a kiddies trailer. Budget circa 400 but could go higher if the right model is found.

I've been looking at hybrids and been into a few places, right now thinking between the Voodoo Marasa (Halfords) or the Specialzed Sirrus Sport disk.

Any thoughts or alternatives would be welcome.

I often point people in this general direction: https://www.evanscycles.com/pinnacle-lithium-4-2016-hybrid-bike-EV244090

Do it all bikes.

Ok update time, after spending the day touring around and speaking to store "experts" I've changed direction. Now thinking less is more in terms of gears to allow a 50/34 t chain set plus no carbon forks as may break with repeated curb jumping.

Right now thinking of going with a Boardman Hybrid Comp Bike from halfords at £499, thoughts?? Want to crack on but still open other ideas. If this was the one any suggestions on alternative sources to get the cost down as I believe it has gone for a fair bit less in the past.

Cheers all

I'm a big fan of Boardman bikes (see my sig. below) and think that the Hybrid Comp would be a good fit for what you've said.
Halfords regularly have offers on so if you can wait you may well get the bike for a bit less (they have a day of promotions coming up on Tuesday 12th, with different offers every 2 hours - no idea what they will be, but you could fall lucky).
Also remember that British Cycling members get 10% off everything at Halfords. So join BC for £35(?) and as well as third party insurance cover and loads of other benefits, you'd get £49 off that bike - plus another 10% off anything else you buy, and it doesn't have to be for the bike (I got 10% off a car valeting kit and some Karcher window vac liquid last week). The 10% discount applies to sales and promotional offers too.

If you wanted to spend a bit less, the Carrera Subway hybrids seem to get consistently good reviews at their price point?

I looked at the Boardman hybrid comp .... But made the mistake of picking the team hybrid up ... 10.5kg .. Carbon forks, and it's nimble.

Treat yourself, pay a bit more And get a lot more with the team

Or reserve online and pay in store to get 10% off at Hellfrauds. Hell, you can stand in the store and do it on your smartphone like I did with the Wifes Pendleton and you don't have to buy a BC membership to do it.

I like and ride hybrids so my suggestion might be a bit odd but have you considered a cyclo cross.

They would fit your bill and give you a bit more zip and aero position as you sound like you like to push the speed.

Edinburgh Bikes are very good VFM and I can vouch for their crossers as good, fun, solid, reliable bikes - I'm sure the scrote that nicked mine from my son rated it too. It'd do fine with a trailer too.

I really like this bike company, they have bikes to suit your needs.

Please check them out rather than going for a big named bike.

Thanks for all the advice guys, think I've made my mind up for tonight at least lol

Going to go with boardman, just toying if I need to get any higher spec components beyond those that come fitted. Thinking about increased performance but also longevity.......

When components wear out replace with better - simplest and cheapest way rather than going the upgrade path from Day 1. If this doesn't work for you, buy a higher spec bike now.

Had my Boardman MX Sport less than a week but already in love with it. Comfortable ride even with a double curve in my spine. It's not the lightest hybrid around but I can still manage to pick it up and run up steps with it. It has lockable suspension which is a god send on some of the roads around my area the pot holes have potholes... Not being ale to see the numbers on the gears took some getting used to for me and the roadish tyres were a lot thinner than my old trusty mountain bike but been out on it three times now and would not trade it for anything.
Enjoy your hybrid whichever you choose
