SO excited.....my mother (she of flapjack fame) is coming up for an interesting birthday soon and between the bike to work scheme at her employer and me offering to do some funding, she's looking increasingly excited about buying a new and decent bike.
Realistically she'd use it for short day rides but she and Dad want to do the Canal du Midi next year and I'm hugely hoping that the experience will make them realise that touring cycling is the way they should be spending their twilight years (which are admittedly a good few years off).
So...we think a hybrid would be best for the moment. Mum wants flat bars and a step through frame and we have budget of about £600.
Went to the LBStoday and they recommended a Specialised Globe City but also suggested we look at Koga, Cannondales and Ridgebacks. Apparently cheaper Dawes bikes are not the things they once were.
Any recommendations?
