after most rides i can usually eat everything in the house, is this normal ? and is it the right thing to do as iv been told that your body keeps burning fat up to 30 mins after a ride. it does concern me that i eat a rather large amount after everyride.

Get it down ya pal. Also, have plenty of water - usually a bit dehydrated which makes you a bit more hungry

If you've worked hard, you can burn fat for much longer than 4 hours. Put in good carbs and protein and try to keep the fats down. And as said, make sure you hydrate.. I'm terrible at that bit and can end up with a post ride hangover for hours.

Why would you be told off? There's nothing particularly wrong with fasted cardio, only that not everyone can do it.

RedBullet - what did you eat the night before the ride - and before the ride?

When trying to lose weight ahead of le tour, Bjarne Riis used to return from a training ride and neck a 2 litre bottle of fizzy water with two sleeping tablets, so that he'd sleep through dinner.

But I'm not Bjarne Riis, so I return from a training ride and eat all the food.

How far and hard was the ride you shouldn't need to eat much after say ten miles

I'm like that first rides after a lay off. About three rides in my body readjusts and I eat normally on riding days. Keep eating but be aware if you ride often, 3 or 4 times a week the munchies will fade, so don't eat out of habit, only for need.

Eh no wonder. Cheerios are pretty crap - Porridge is your friend.

RE: weight gain. You'd need to provide a bit more info there. age/activity/weight/height/current diet/sex

If you feel hungry, eat something. If you don't you will just want more and more as time goes on. Try to eat 'good' things when back, if possible have bananas as these will also help reduce likelihood of cramp
