Hungover - but haven't been drinking

I woke up this morning with what felt like a hangover. It's gradually got better as the day's gone on, but I'm trying to figure out what's caused it as I haven't had anything alcoholic to drink for months (seriously - my OH doesn't drink, and it doesn't seem worth opening a bottle of wine for me to have one glass and throw the rest away). I've had all the classic symptoms like headache, nausea, just feeling bloody awful, starting to feel better for a bit, then had something to eat or drink and felt awful again.

I think it's somehow related to the 3 hour ride I did yesterday (with more climbing than usual and in strong wind), but I don't know how. I didn't drink any less than usual, ate well when I got home, but had a headache all yesterday afternoon and evening. I put the headache down to 20 miles into a relentless headwind. Slept well last night, and woke up with a "hangover" this morning.

Any ideas?

Sounds like dehydration with a bit of 'bonk' thrown in. I've had it occasionally myself, it's usually when I've had a hard ride and not replaced enough fluids and food. I think what happens (to me) is that I push myself to just before the 'bonk' point and so don't realise that I should reload a bit more than usual after the ride - end result, hangover. I find if I 'bonk' properly I know exactly how to recover from it.

Could be heat stroke and dehydration. I'd have a day off, take it easy and stay in the cool. Drink well and monitor it. If not better in 24 hours then see a doc. Could be a bug or virus that requires their attentions.

I have felt exactly the same way today, putting it down to dehydration and loss of salts etc after yesterdays gruelling ride.

Thanks. Dehydration/overdoing it a bit was what I was leaning towards, but I wanted a bit of reassurance that I was probably on the right track. I feel fine today, so a day of taking it easy (and eating lots of birthday cake!) has obviously helped. Life has enforced another rest day on me today, so I should be full of energy again by tomorrow.

I had doubts about dehydration initially because I didn't seem to be sweating that much, but when the wind's that strong, I suppose it evaporates so fast you don't really notice it. I struggled a bit in the last few miles, too. It felt like my legs had lost all their strength, but I don't think I bonked because when I got annoyed with myself and got out of the saddle and started using different muscles, I had no trouble powering up the hill I'd been struggling with. I was probably very close, though.

It may not be cycling related at all, I've been suffering the last few days with similar symptoms, and I've been off the bike due to injury for about 6 weeks!! I actually went out for a 60k spin to see if it would make me feel any better and it did, but symptoms returned after a while though not quite as bad. I'm putting it down to a virus of some sort (as GP's usually do when they don’t know what’s wrong with you )
