Just reassembling my wheels with new bearings/ cones. Should the metal press in hub seals be filled with grease before pushing in?

There is no need as they shouldn't be contacting with anything that moves.

I never bother but thinking about it a blob of grease might help keep water out. As Pete says though, no reason to lubricate it.

I'm no expert but when I rebuilt my hubs I just packed the cone ball bearing area (I don't know the proper name) full of grease and a little on the axle. I took the front wheel apart again last week, inside was fine but there was a little bit of surface rust on the metal washers that sit behind the lock nuts, so that got cleaned and a thin layer of grease applied.

Thanks for the replies, ended up putting a smear in there just to try and keep the water out .Probably be looking at new wheels for next year anyway as the rims are getting worn now luckilly the bearing cups are still like new.

cheers
