Yet again i have a question that , to those who know the answer will sound very silly indeed - but here goes. If i had say pro-lite wheels with a shimano free-hub could i unscrew the free-hub and replace with a campagnolo free hub ( guessing it would have to be the same make ie pro-lite) - just using prolite as an example , same would go with fulcrum or any wheel really , is it just a case of swapping over the free hub or is it vastly more complicated than that and i am a silly man who shouldn't own a spanner set  thanks in advance for any help

Sometimes but not always. It might be impossible because freehub supply might not exist, or because Campag and Shimano freehubs don't have the same width and the hub/axle design has not catered for the difference e.g. The best is to ask the manufacturer, e.g. for Pro-lite see here.

It is not the question you asked, but an alternative answer is to use Shimano spaced Campag splined cassette or vice versa. I know IRD do them, or alternatively get special spacers from Highpath, which also has a useful page on width consideration.

thanks for that - it was just i saw some cheap wheels but they were shimano and i aint and i took the bits n bobs out of my wheels to regrease and just got me wondering if things were interchangable - but will look at links thanks

You can usually ask for Campagnolo hubs when ordering - many retailers will swap freehubs for you as it is very easy.

The general rule is that freehubs are not interchangeable between manufacturers - so a pro-lite freehub will not fit a fulcrum wheel etc etc.

Even within a single manufacturer there may be different designs of freehub so you may have to match the freehub to the wheel as in some of the pro-lite wheels linked to by RAFN.
