Hi

I had the misfortune to ride home through a flooded road on Thursday night. My frame and wheel rims had water in after but I'm more concerned about my Schmidt hub dynamo. These things are supposed to be sealed so in theory are OK but they do recommend not submerging them for cleaning, it was very much submerged while riding on Thursday. It all still works fine at present and as far as i can tell is dry. Has anyone else done this and had any problems as a result later?

Thanks

Oops.

Is there anything on the Schmidt website?

Best practice in these circumstances is to pick the bike up and carry it over one's shoulder. Shoes can be cleaned and dried easier.

Generally when it gets that deep, I pick the bike up and carry it. Watch out for cattle grids though.

I would recommend that you ride it on a daily basis for a while, and keep it somewhere warm overnight, with the QR skewer out.
There is apparently very little clearance for the magnets, so the idea is to scrape off any rust that might form before it's thick enough to seize the wheel. This did happen with some older hubs when water was sucked in through the seals by air pressure changes. There's a breather hole in the middle of the QR axle to stop that these days.
