I had a weird noise from my back wheel while on the L2B FNRttC and on closer inspection (ie I actually had a look today!) I noticed the plastic dust cover on the right side of my rear wheel (Mavic Cosmic) had come loose and was slowly being destroyed by the carbon spokes.

I've refixed it but its a bit knackered, so my question is, do I need to replace it, or is it more cosmetic?

thx

Personally I wouldn't want my carbon spokes (indeed carbon anything) to rub on anything else regularly. Similarly I wouldn't want my cartridge bearings to be exposed to the elements.

I had to replace a pair of plastic hub caps for one of my Crossmax, and having searched the dealer tech doc for the code I found nobody lists them for sale in UK. So I looked up Mavic dealers until one agreed to order them for me (under £10 a pair incl p&p). Forget Evans, although they are supposed to be Mavic dealers their "Special Orders" department didn't even bother answering.

thx, I think thats what I'm going to have to do (find a dealer )

Do you mean the big round plastic bit between the cassette and the spokes?

If so - that is a spoke guard to prevent the chain from jamming in the spokes if you ever manage to over shift.

Most wheels cope without one - just make sure the limiters are correctly set and the rip it off.

Pop a photo on here.Someone may have one on some old wheels.
You never know.

good idea, apart from being mavic, and being carbon and being new they are (of course) unique!

finally found a supplier with them in stock - Slane Cycles - £4!
