How wide a rim for 35mm tyres?

Triggered by a related query, I've been meaning to do something about the rather (ok, very) crappy rear wheel I put on my new 'other bike'. I think it's actually steel, and it makes what should be a reasonably sprightly wee beastie dead sluggish. Now, I have a wheel off an old bike which, while not perfect, is immeasurably superior. Only problem is, it's a racing wheel, which I used to use with 23mm tyres, and the tyres I want to use on the 'other bike' (which I bought purely for off-road) are 700 x 35. Can that be done? Or will I need wider rims? Thanks.

it'll be fine. Tyres may roll off the rims if you run them silly low pressure though. ;)

Offically I belive you will need a wider rim.
However, it common for people to use CX tyres on narrow CP22 rims / open pro rims and i've never seen anybody have a problem.

Cheers. I'll give it a go. Needless to say if I come to grief I'll be back here bitching and moaning like a big girl's blouse.
