I have a three year old Specialized Secteur Elite that came with Mavic CXP22 wheels. Recently the freehub body started playing up so I looked into the cost of replacing it...about £30 for the body and a bit of time on my part. The wheels themselves have had a fair amount of use in all weathers and have some wear. I figured that I may as well buy a complete new pair of wheels for about £120 rather than rejuvenate the rear one which has a limited life expectancy. I bought Fulcrum Racing 7s but have subsequently noticed that it has only 24 spokes on the back wheel.
The Secteur has fixing points for a pannier on the back and I very infrequently use them to do some really light touring on roads and cycle paths. I don't do rocks and stumps. Do you think that my new wheels will cope? I'm 76 kilos and the loaded panniers will be about 8kg.
Thank you.

Pretty strong, I did bunny hops on mine. Had them for 3 years, over 5,000 miles done in all conditions with about 90kg of weight on them and had no broken spokes.

I'm using a pair I've had since 2010, and they've been hammered by potholes, bunnyhops, stones, and even across Ilkley moor and they're still good  (edit: I'm using the road version, not the cyclocross version if that's helpful)

Agree, very tough. As soon as you pick them up you know they are near indestructible as they weight a truck load and feel laterally very stiff.

I used a pair through winter last year and use the rear as a turbo wheel atm.

You would probably find that you wouldn't be able to get the freehub off the CXP22's anyway as specialized seem to have fixed them on so they wont come off, I have seen several people complain about this and the freehub on my 2010 Secteur Elite wouldn't shift either so I bought new wheels.

Thank you all for your advice, much appreciated. I'll swap my cassette and tyres over to the new wheels in the next couple of days. Next week I'll be off up the LF1 in Holland with a rack and panniers on the back.

I've been using mine for 9 months now and they've held up awesomely, the back wheel is ever so slightly out of true but apart from that they've been perfect.
