Any advice on this problem I've got?

I took my bike abroad and had no problems with it but when I came back, I have cross-threaded the rear derailleur onto the hangar putting it back on. Although it sits tight, it forces the chain into the spokes when in the lowest gear! So now I need to get this repaired but throw myself on this forum's wisdom. Any suggestions or advice as to how I can extricate myself from this self-created problem?

I assume that it's not a replaceable hanger, Paul?

No, it's integral to the bike frame. It's this that's giving me the headache. I was considering upgrading from Veloce to Centaur or Chorus but this situation has become a real problem.

Two options. One reattach it being careful this time not to cross thread it. The best way always to do this is to turn the bolt backwards until you feel the slight click as it drops over the end of the thread and then turn it forwards. That means it feeds straight into the start of the thread rather than rotating round hunting for it. Option two is to take it to a bike shop and get them to put a helicoil insert in. Most good bike shops should know how to do it.

Here for rides.
the screw it in from behind
the tap it from the rear
the tap it from the front
the helicoil

options in that order of preference

Right, had it sorted. Took it in to my local shop, Wicked Cycles, they pointed to a line of bikes all waiting for attention and said it would be next Friday before they could look at it but the manager asked to have a quick look, bent down with his allen keys, brought over his mechanic, bish bash bosh, all back to normal! Don't ask me how he did it or what he did; his hands were swoosh-swoosh-swoosh -faster than the human eye and all was well. They refused my offer of payment as they considered it was too easy to charge me! I love this shop and reckon it's the best we have in the wonderful county of Lancashire.
