This is going to sound stupid but I bought some Bahco SandFlex hacksaw blades to install mudguards and can't figure out how to open it!
The blades are held together by a plastic cap. Does it open or do I need to cut it somehow?

I'm ready to cut the stays so any help would be great.

Doesn't the cap pull off?

Presumably the key lies in removing the pin / peg that's passing through the holes in the ends of the blades..

For future reference a cutting disc in a rotary tool is excellent for chopping stays - far less chance of the blade chattering along their length and spoiling the finish ;)

A bolt cutter is a good tool for this.

I got my Dremel just for that. It has had a couple of other outings since mind you.

Lovely answers

I had to cut it open at the hinge. It looked like it would could be reusable but it's a one time closure.

You can tell this is my first time. I'm hoping to cut the stays using just the blades, no actual hacksaw, but at least there's a vice I can use.

Same here! I've never actually NEEDED it, but it's done a few jobs since. (it will be useful when I need to get into a pack of hacksaw blades).

I do think it's crazy that mudguards can't come with the stays precut to about the right length; I've fitted lots of sets without hacking them down before needing the Dremel for my partner's bike. I know I'm in a minority on this ...

I'm renting so trying not to buy any more stuff. Not even a little hacksaw! Otherwise I might've bought bolt cutters.
