Hi,
I'm a newb on here. I would like to know how you get hold of maps for the various designated cycle routes that exist on places like cycle-route.com so you actually know where to go ?

You can get some info from sustrans, you're council may also have some info as might a lbs.

I forgot to say welcome:welcome:

OS maps include the NCNs on them. City councils have a lot. Sustrans maps are all right, but the engine on their website is extremely lethargic and sustrans unfortunately deliberately omit cycle paths they dislike and that don't belong to them so their maps are far from complete. Basically no source covers everything .

My personal advice would be to become familiar with the Ordnace Survey maps. These are excellent for navigating any route, and allow diversions if a route is blocked or inconvenient.

The other advantage is that once you establish your riding style and abiities they enable planning of your own routes.

The Ordnance Survey have lots of educational stuff on their website about how to use their maps and is a good starting place.

....not to mention the fact that the OS maps show you other attractions worth a detour as well as giving you the steepness of hills and a wealth of other information. Some of my best MTB days out have been the result of hours of study of the maps while sitting on the loo.

Britain is the best mapped country in the world and we have superb maps, the 1:25,000 orange cover maps are brilliant.

I agree. I have the 50,000/1 maps though and have them for a large chunk of the north of England. They look great .

These chaps at Lifecycle seem to have a very broad range of free maps from all over the country , though primarily focussed on the South

Someone else with a "Loobrary"?

My current plans, guide books and maps always reside here!

Hi and Welcome, I like your user name,

Sustrans as Hlab said are great for this, or/and if you live in London TFL do the whole of the capital for free, :becool:

Cheers

No need to write off for them - Evans at Canary Wharf and a cycle shop off Whitechapel both have them on display.
