How to measure a pedal crank

I think to measure the length of the crank arm, its centre to centre (e.g. 170mm) - is this correct ?

Center to center is correct.

I'd be surprised if it isn't on the back or side.

As has been said, no measuring required. It will be stamped on one, if not both, of the crank arms.
