I had a similar problem with my recumbent. It's got a bag slung over the back of the seat. I bought a sheet or two of retroflective sticky backed stuff from Evans or Halfords, can't remember. Cut out big letters that spelt BIKE and stuck them on the the bag. For a bonus I did some right pointing chevrons beneath them. For another bonus I stuck the remains of the sheet, now with BIKE cut out of it, onto the back of the seat, so if I ride with the bag off, I still have retroreflective goodness.

yes, you can buy high viz rucksack covers (some of which are waterproof so extra bonus and they start at as little as £3, but you'll need to google it) but what i did with mine was, i nipped to Halfrauds and bought some hi viz stickers (they come on a strip) and some stick on red reflectors. they've stayed on fine and they've been stuck on my bag for about 2 years. .

Sew or glue on 3m reflective tape
A dayglo hump (ono) cover if you want it bright during the day, or just a standard hi viz vest over it for a more economic option
If there are clips or elastic bits then you could put a few of the springy wrist slap bands round them
Maybe give it a sam browne belt

could be your lucky day BoaB, I bought a large Hump rucksack cover when I originally thought I'd be using a rucksack. It's never been used and amazingly I was able to find it a few minutes ago. If you would like it then it's yours FOC just send me details of where you want it posted to via a Conversation/PM....cheers.....Al

if you don't want/need it then it's on offer for whoever else would like it

They are good and reflective though - better than similar, but cheaper options.

have you ever noticed that when you follow a roadie with a flouro ruck-sack, especially when following them in a car, their arse up heads down riding position means you can only see a small proportion of the sack or its cover?

Maybe it is just me.

blackpool-esque here, often even in broad daylight - though that is mainly so the prosecuting barrister can have a go as I watch from heaven - with lots of reflectives out of daylight.

Flouro colours? Day-glo? Not for me. Generally the brightest coloured thing about me on a bike is whatever flesh I have exposed! ;)

I had that concern as well when I used to commute with a rucksack, so simply added some additional reflective tape from an old hi-viz vest I found at the side of the road (attached using safety pins) to the bottom of the cover and hung one of those small led flashing red lights off the bottom of the pocket mesh. worked a treat, but personally I don't use it at all anymore, if I am carrying more than pockets & saddle bag, then I use my panniers now.
