How to get mates ride on strava to my garmin 810

Hi guys, just brought a garmin. 810 . With etc map etc, what I want to do is download one of my mates ride on strava to my garmin, everyone told it was easy on the phone, I've tried but I can't seem to get the hang of it, cheers guys,

Download his gpx file of the route, connect garmin to pc and open the garmin folder, then copy and paste it into the 'new files' folder !

I may be wrong but I thought that to be able to download another riders GPs data you need a premium account. You could always get your mate to download it and send it to you if you are a free member?
