Hi guys my rear brake cable on my tricross sport has stretched and i need to renew the cable.I was going to just fit an inner cable as the outer cables look in good nick and was wondering if you could pass on any tips as it is a cantilever brake. Also do I have to remove the bar tape or can it be done feeding into the present outer cable without touching the bar tape.Any help appreciated thanks

Hi, if the outer is in good condition then you should be ok just feeding a new inner into it. My tricross had the crosstop brake prep so it needed a bit of jiggling to get it passed that. If you have a decathlon nearby they do shimano cables for four pound, they seem better than the clarkes ones at halfords.

paul thanks for getting back to me,I have tried fitting inner cables in the past but struggled feeding it thru the outer cable while the outer cable was attached to the bars and ended replacing the bar tape as well, was just wondering if any tips that helps to feed the cable thru

I've not managed to get a brake cable on without unwrapping my bars yet, on either the LHT or the SCR2 (both Tiagra levers).

I buy my bar tape when I buy the new inners now

My shifters are also tiagra, I have replaced both inners and it can take a bit of jiggling to get it passed the tight bend. I think I may even have gripped of lightly with some pliers being careful not to crush it and used them to feed it in a quarter inch at a time.
