so i bought something yesterday on a whim just thinking it could be a good idea, with all the moron drivers about especially in these winter nights.
now i am not sure if you all do this or if it is even legal ( i assume it is due to wheel reflectors) but i purchased this
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/181275535...eName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649

i got silver 25mm and just a 1m strip but it also comes in red for your rear if you wish ( i just used silver all around)

the results are rather good! the reflectors that came with the bike dont even reflect like most of them but this stuff lights like a christmas tree! i cut very small squares of the tape, wiped the area down with a microfibre cloth and pressed it on firmly and removed any air bubbles. be warned if your frame is at all greasy, oily , dirty or wet it will not stick.

here are the results although the photo's dont do it justice i also have video's in the dark showing the wheels rotating and it is very impressive, please let me know if you want to see one!
excuse the messy garage we are in the process of clearing rubbish.

what are your thoughts? i personally think this could save your life, minimal extra weight, hardly noticeable in the daylight and can be found as low as £1

I find they look abit iffy, and they certainly aren't as bright as this, I've just got 4 patches maybe an inch by an inch on each wheel, you can't notice them in the daylight but at night it looks like some sort of UFO , I'm going to be taking the rest off the frame it was just to show how effective it was

It's worth noting that when a car is waiting to pull out of a side road and they look at you approaching, your reflectives will not show up to the driver.

hows that? ive done a few tests tonight, from different angles, distances and types of light and they all show up well!

Yep - reflectives only work in a direct beam alignment and if the driver is actually paying attention to the road.

Even then you still need to consider whether the reflectives make you out as a cyclist and the driver acts appropriately ..... many won't

for a bob or so it is much better being more high viz than not, it is especially good at more of a distance so to pre warn drivers something is in the road, when they get close enough for it not to be as effective you will be lit up by their headlights anyway

I got some of those flashy lights for my dust caps that give the same effect but turn off when you stop . Problem is , with the red rear light and blue wheel lights you look like police  I took them off as I cant be bothered with the hassle of getting pulled for it but its quite amusing to notice no one overtakes you when you have them on . ^_^
