It's a bit more complicated than that...
Our corporate charity is the Air Ambulances, and I've now been thrown a challenge to make a link with the Welsh service and also to raise a decent chunk myself. Having a competitive streak and a very small team I want to be able to outdo my senior colleagues, almost all of whom have very large teams.

We're in Guildford; they're in Llanelli. That's about 225 miles apart, via Reading, the A4, the Bath&Bristol path, the Severn Bridge and chunks of South Wales. Would it be stupidly insane for me to set up a challenge ride for myself for later this year? Nonstop, of course, within, say, 24 hours. I've got the base fitness, even if I am a little large at the moment, but I have no idea how long it would talk to be able to extend to this sort of distance.

They also have a base up near Angelsey. Another 150 miles or so onwards. A little devil on my shoulder us asking me why not.

225 miles in 24 hours should be achievable, if you get by with little sleep.
You'll get lots of sponsorship, because non cyclists will think it is impossible and you are mad

As a Friday I'm used to not much sleep!

(Edit)

I see that 24 hours is the time limit for a 360km UK audax, if any such thing exists. (And please don't explain the AUK rules!)

Back in the 1964 or 5 I did a CTC Standard Ride, as they were then known, of 240 miles in 24 hours. Still have the ornate and ugly certificate attesting to this. Of course, at the age I was you could do anything, and there was none of this sponsorship malarkey to take the fun out of it.

To save you the bother, UKIP are promising to abolish the toll in their manifesto.

Its quite a challenge...
im quite fit But i find more than 3 hrs on a bike takes all my energy..tho i have a health issue that saps me after a while..so slower recovery time..
you need to get as many helpers as possible to keep you motivated..

if you raise money and fail its nothing to feel bad about..
my kids are all doing a 20 mile tuff mudder next Saturday and although they have been running they will be un trained for the mud and many obstacles on the course..
they have raised very nearly 2000 quid so far with a sports day at work and sponsorship for the main event next week..they had a target of 500..

Get a health check and start training Sir..hope you raise a good some.. my favorite charity is the AA

This bit is completely mental. Otherwise I'm with Balkan Express.
Another 150 miles - after a suitable pause for sleep and refreshment. Whatever I am, I'm no Steve Abraham.

Sounds awesome. You'll need the support of your team.
Hmmm...

I've got one keen cyclist, one really good project manager who is also an emergency first responder. The sort of people I employ aren't known for their publicity skills, but that's a really good idea. In the office my rule is that I will delegate everything I don't actually have to do myself (which the team rather like, I think). This is a good opportunity.

(Edited to add)

I believe that I'm riding on Saturday night with two of the Fridays' most experienced randonneurs. I think I shall pick some brains.
