I'm not trying to sell this bike here, but I would just like your general opinions. I'am trying to sell a 'Male Specialized Crossroads Elite MB' from 2006.

It has a couple minor scratches but is in excellent working order & rides well.

The bike was purchased from Evans Cycles. I went to them to ask how much it would sell for now. One assistant said 200 pounds, I then asked another assistant in the same shop & he said 200-250 beause it has all of the componants and the original price would have been around 450+

I put an ad in a newspaper for 250 with all of the specs and got no offers. I have reduced the price to 200 but have had no offers as yet.

I would just like your opinion of how much you would buy the bike for and wether I started off at too high a price. The frame is 61cm/24 inches.

the specs for the bike are here http://www.specialized.com/gb/gb/bc/SBCProduct.jsp?arc=2006&spid=21614

I'm not an expert in the second hand market but that seems the right ball park to me circa £200; I usually go with the bike loses 50% of its value the first year and then 10% per annum.

Newspaper might not be the best place to sell a bike like that. Worth offering it on our Classifieds thread, and that of other online forums. Or Ebay - but charges are so high these days it's very much a last resort.

The trouble is that money is tight and £200 to some could be a lot of money and as "bike shaped objects" from Halfords start at £99.99 (just had a look), so people that don't know sod all about bikes will go to places like Halfords or even supermarkets.

Thanks for all the replies guys. I was thinking about trying alternatives other than newspapers. I'm not keen on Ebay either, and Gumtree has a reputation for stolen bikes.

I live in the London Area, are there many cyclists on this forum from there?
