how much damage does the rain do to a bike over time

Only unsheltered bike rack at work. I can haul my bike up several flights of stairs and leave it in the office but prefer to leave it outside. Just wondering today, if it gets soaked say one day a week what can i expect in terms of rust or general negative impact?

What sort of bike, one made from monkey metal will start to corrode pretty rapidly.

Very little if you ride and maintain it normally. I don't park mine under cover as I visit multiple sites and leave it locked up in the open. Have done for 3 years now . But I do clean it fairly regular and give it a wipe down weekly

Agree with vickster; had to do the same at my last worksite for nine years because the powers that be didn't come up with the promised bike shed; something to do with 'having exceeded the budget on the main building'. Heard that one before haven't we - ! ? A tip though, aquire a length of cord about two metres long and on windy days, tie it around the cover & bike widthwise to prevent said cover disappearing off into the next county - !:okay:

I shouldn't worry unduly - plastic bag over the brooks, and maybe oil it a bit more diligently. I'd not go mad with cleaning / degreasing as a film of oil does keep rust at bay. I had a bike which lived outside for 5 or 6 months - still had it decades later

I ride mine regularly in rain and through the winter (salt) the inside of the bolts are a bit rusty on some, rest of the bike whilst not spotless is still going strong 7 years after I got it, made of @screenman ;) monkey metal since its a Viking.

It WILL dissolve, the second it gets wet. All bikes dissolve when they get wet, all of the bikes I've ever owned have dissolved as soon as they've got wet, it's a nightmare, a NIGHTMARE I tells ya.
