Hi All,

I have entered a Dualthlon in September and I want to know if any one has any tips on my training, I have been told about brick work and have alredd had 2 sessions.

In general how much weight, core work to cyclies do if any at all?

I was thinking of the below, I train for football on a Tuesday night and pay on a sat so I have a good base level of fitness, but after my duathlon i want to concentrate on cycling events.

Monday - Cycle/run in gym
Tuesday - Core Work
Wednesday - Cycle/run in gym
Thursday - Core Work
Friday - Cycle/run in gym

I know I need to get out on the bike and get riding on the roads but for thos of you that have not read my post I am still in the process of getting my first road bike so for now its gym work which I know is not the same but for now it will have to do.

Thanks

Every single weekday some 'structured' training ....?? ok .. for my part if I did that, I'd be Mr Unpopular in de house...
Gym work is good and imo essential.. but its the time factor that eats up resolve.. especially as you will want to put in some decent road work as the year progresses

I am lucky that my gf is a PT and well I get to the gym either befor work or during my lunch hour so it all happend with in the working week so gym work every week day is no problem.

yes I can see that when I want to get out on the road some more that might be an issue but then I tackle that when i get to it.

At the moment I can do 15Km on a gmy bike a level 5 in 30 mins.

Back in the bad old days, even before I was around, the men of the village would have to go hunting EVERY DAY, just to get food to eat.

That means they were walking miles and running a few, day-in, day-out.
Their level of fitness would have been incredible, considering they would have been participating in the 'hunt' from a young age.

Darwinian theory says those who were unable to prove themselves would not get a mate, thus refining the gene pool.

We are what we are today due to our ancestor's need to be fit and healthy for survival.

Exercise EVERY DAY.

There aren't many chaps around who posses the 'Human physique'. Those who do, exercise every day.;)

I am not one of them.
I was close to it when I was 26. I did one part of a Sprint Triathlon EVERY DAY. Plus some weights.

Naw, go out, kill your 300 wildebeast over a 2 week period - salt em and dry em in the sun, laze around for 3 months eating jerky.

scrap running on a tredmill if you can, despite what some people may say it does not train you for running as running does.

Try and do similar distances at similar speeds to that you do on the tredmill, but on the road/cross country.

I may not be about to explain this that clearly..but effectively tredmill is just placing one foot infront of the other/jumping up and down, wheras with running you need to propel yourself forward with each stride....which is half the work. I talk with a fair bit of experience with running, as I have been doing long distance (progressing from road to trail) for a fair time, and tredmil running is not ideal to replace normal running with if possible - though it does give good cardiovascular fitness and is gentle on joints/shins.

That wouldn't leave much time for cycling would it?

Cycling, for me, has become the preferred replacement for disembowelling large animals.

I hate the gym, so I don't do nearly enough core work. I have an excercise ball at home, but it spends far too much time in the closet.

As I said, I love the chase, the hunt and the flensing. So I just get on the bike and sprint out of town, past the domesticated office workers and, a bit further on, the equally docile farm stock.
