I was amongst a large number to do a sportive called "The Struggle" today, on roads around the Ribble Valley. The forecast was abysmal and we were all saying we hoped we'd get the first hour rain free but in the event, apart from a few showery moments, the heavy stuff stayed off until right at the end (although there were still a few out at that time). The wind was bad..but good! There are some real beasts of climbs but we were sheltered on Birdy Brow and then - a major surprise - as we got to the top part of the Nick o'Pendle, the real, real steep part where it ramps right up, you could feel the wind push you along! I said to the guy next to me that we hardly had to pedal at all as it was pushing us almost effortlessly upwards! Fantastic it was. Then, on the big climb out of the Trough of Bowland, the wind was again strongly in our favour, pushing us up and making it a lot easier than it normally is. So sometimes, even foul weather can be your friend!

I decided not to go out today yet but may do later on, but I have been out for a ride the last 3 days in a row and got soaked to the skin on each and every occasion. Yesterday got soaked 3 times in one ride, still enjoyed the ride though after all its only rain.

Lesson learned:tongue:

Friday - went out for 20 miles lunchtime got soaked, day brightened up in the afternoon, went out for another 20 miles early eavening, yep, got soaked again
Saturday - got a fry 9 miles in but pretty windy
Today - went out for 24 miles, wet for first 5 miles, wish it had stayed that way. Cleared up and got very windy, got home feeling like I'd done a lot more than 24 miles.

I did 70 miles in it and it was pretty horrible as I was completely underdressed for it. Couldn't feel my feet, my fingers were killing me and I was shivering/teeth chattering for a good hour. Warmed up a bit once the rain stopped towards the end mind :becool:

I did the Etape Caledonia 81miles but only the first half was in the rain, it really cleared up in the afternoon.

Took part in the Elstead 100 today. 1st hour was in a monsoon, (a canoe would have been easier) then an hour of sunshine, followed by rain for the rest of the day. Good fun, but my bike is filthy!!

A few of us loonies were out in Wales this weekend.

Bryan Chapman Memorial 600.

385 miles. Chepstow to Menai and back to Chepstow.

It was only rain, and wind, and hail, and sleet, and more rain, and more wind.
