The only roads I see closed are for police investigations or road works.

I don't think they could have legally stopped you but I dare say if they'd ask me politely to go round I would have. The only time I've got caught in a Rally it was an open roads event and having a car a few feet from the rear wheel wasn't fun, especially when you get stuck in the medium (42t) ring up to the Path of Condie.

Just wondering how many times people have come across closed roads which have disrupted their journey?

I've not counted! Just the usual things I suppose, fallen trees, landslips, floods, snow, crash investigations, road works, collapsed bridge, high winds on bridge, broken down ferry.

There is a permanent closed road near me. The stream next to it has undermined the bank and they are worried about it sliding down the bank. The council has put up a wooden fence but you can still squeeze past on a bike. It's here (that's with the temporary barrier they put in before the fence).

They said that this road was closed because of a large pothole ...

But we managed to clamber round it! ;)

Do you think I was still allowed to cycle down this?

I thought about it on principle as this is a cycle path, but relented and detoured down the A75 instead.

we had to take the train last week from Mataro to Calella in Catalunya last Sunday because the N11 was closed for a triathlon. Pah!

All kinds of roads are closed for the London Marathon

I came home past Kensington Olympia last Friday evening. The Police had blocked off a wide road by the side of Olympia and had installed crowd barriers down the centre-line. Only limos and cars for the Olympic Ball were allowed down a single lane before spilling the great and the good into the Press area. ( This all became clear later). Anyway, I asked the policemen if I might ride down the empty lane that was presumably cordoned off for crowds of Olympic groupies.....of which there were the grand total of ten over the distance of two hundred yards.

He graciously allowed me through, with the stern warning that I should stay off the road and ride only on the pavement....

Love it.

Now, when this happened to me on a CycleChat ride... A copper said it was ok ride on the pavement as the road was shut. (I say ride, but is was more of a slow scoot as the pavement was heaving with people) A complete peanut of a PCSO (Called Gordon Brown funny enough) thought it was his duty to fine me £30 and refused to listen to me when I said that a 'real' cop had said we had to cycle on the pavement.
