How long to leave it?

About 7 days ago had to take unwanted leave from the bike. Think I over did it and knee swelled up and I found it hard to put weight on my leg and bend it. I thought it would be weeks until I was ready to ride again but after a week of rest...and lots of ibuprofen (two days not doing anything and then keeping off it as much as possible while at work over the last few days) I'm not feeling any pain (unless I kneel down) and am itching to get back on the bike.

Is now the time...?

Maybe but I would take it really steady with an extremely light ride, not for too long and no hills. Get about 40 mins covered at about 50% effort then gently stretch it finishing with RICE (rest ice compression elevation).

Gradually build up your exertion keeping an eye on it, listening to your body and stop if you experience any pain/discomfort.

Ditto Garz, take it easy. Have a similar prob myself although not as bad, just an achey outside of my knee when cycling. Think it's from stepping up my cycling too much when on holiday rather than my bike set up given I was riding all summer with no probs. However, it's very difficult to rest it when my wife's just told me that I have all morning tomorrow if I want!

Thanks Garz and Willo...sounds like good advice. Am wanting to try and step up to commuting 5 days a week (18 miles) but think I over did it and need to build up. Don't think it's set up either as have been riding as it is for 6 months...
