A little further proding around. Seems my sit bones are bruised. Not chaffing. P.s. It was 8 miles each way. So 16 miles total. Not a lot granted. But first time on a bike in over a year. Its a road bike with a "hard" saddle. I've had it all set up previously, and again, have done a 100mile cycle in one sitting before and was fine after. Just need to get toughened up down there I guess.

Good padded shorts, they may not be strictly needed but I don't get on a bike without myself

Yeah I have padded cycle shorts. I know the saddle is fine for me because I had cycled 100 miles in it previously with no problems. (when I was acclimatised). Its just because I have been out of the saddle for so long. I know it will get better, just really hoping to cycle tomorrow but still tender. I'll slap some cream on and get back on it tomorrow. I have a padded seat cover thing that I hate usually but might just make the difference in these early stages.
The tenderness is possibly simply compression bruising. This happens after a long time of not riding. If you persist and keep riding, the pain goes once you warm up a little. Good shorts and chamois cream will help. If the bike is not set to your old (comfortable) position it's worth thinking about a bike fit. But most of all try to keep riding - within a week or so things should sort themselves out. Good luck!

Well I made it in! had to use the old timer gel seat cover, ad padded shorts, and cream.... but was OK. Hopefully soon can ditch the seat cover and be back to normal.

A good rub with methylated spirits or Deep Heat will toughen up the area, plus you'll ride much faster to cool your butt down......

PS: I'm joking...
