After posting a thread about advice on my first road bike, I am going to try out a Spez Secteur (£640), Giant Defy 3 (£625) and Bianchi Nirone Xenon (£739) this week.. However whilst mooching through some other 'first bike' threads I came across a discussion about a Vitus road bike (link below). It is from Chain Reaction Cylces which seems to have a good rep and a couple of people on here seem to think it is a good deal. I am just canvassing for a little more opinion before a purchase anything. The carbon fork model is available for about another £50.

Cheers - Nick

A friend has just bought one for his lad - for the money looks good value although I really don't know what Vitus are like now.

They're selling out fast in regular sizes though - only small ones left.

I got one and loving it so far. Good value for money.

Not sure how much cycling I will be doing, so want something that will stand up to a fair few miles. How much do you do rednax?

I've decided to get back into cycling predominantly for fitness, found I wasn't really using my gym subscription, so bought a bike instead. Not doing a great deal at the moment, hope to be doing 20+ miles a day soon, and ultimately I'd like to do some sort of organised trip, such as a Charity London-Paris at some stage.

I am working towards this next year. The details are on the Marie Curie website. You should come along so I will not be the only one lagging behind.

Went to have a look at the Spez Secteur Sport and Giant Defy 3 today. The customer service from CycleStore on Congleton (Cheshire) was first rate and nothing was too much trouble. The bikes both felt comfortable to sit on but I think I am leaning towards the Spez, both on looks and spec. Just got to go and have a look at the Bianchi Nirone on Thur or Fri at EvansCycles.

Once I have done this I can then make an informed decision... including whether to consider the Vitus Alios (Carbon) at £300 cheaper than the above models (£400 cheaper than the Bianchi).

Choices.... choices..... choices, but seen as its my first road bike, I want to get it right.

I bought a Vitus Alios triple last week, it's a great bike for £299 unbeatable value and very good spec.
The price of the V A Razor which is lower spec. has gone up and is now dearer than the Alios......
