found myself at a bit of a loose end today and decided to clean my ride, after the drive chain came out the baby wipes and every nook and cranny cleaned followed by the furniture polish, then lubed chain, pivot points etc.
Standing back i noticed the tyre walls let the show down and remembering i had some tyre wall cleaner i used on the car i polished them too.

She looks brill now and whilst i enjoyed this time it made me wonder just how far do people go in their cleaning routine or is it an early onset of ocd for me ?

I'm a bit anal about my bestest Summer bike, that is always sparkling and, yes, I've wiped the tyres before with a duster (although never cleaned them with cleaner.)

Different story on the hack, I usually wipe the crud off that when it no longer resembles a bike

Think that would encourage me to just buy a new one

Ditto!!!!!

Every so often I get both my bikes out, clean them with a jet wash, re-lube the chains and cables with dry motorbike lube, then put them away to dry.

I don't go much on the idea that a "real cyclist" only uses oil. I use Wurth High Performance Dry Chain Lube - the same stuff that I use on my motorbike. If it can lubricate a chain that's designed to be capable of whizzing round at well over 100 mph, then it's good enough for my bicycles!

I know plenty of motorbikers too who raise an eyebrow at dry lube (my mechanic laughs at me for using it), but my motorbike chain has done over 10,000 miles on nothing but dry chain lube and it's still a good'un.

Eddy Merckx once (according to his wife) famously got up in the middle of the night and dismantled his bike entirely in order to work out how many components a bike is made of. I've no idea if he actually cleaned it or not though...

And no, I don't know what the answer was!
