What you could do is convert it to a tcx file (I use this site to convert gps files). Import to the Garmin Training Centre that should have came with your 605 (if you've lost the cd you can download it here) and export it (send to device) via the usb cable.
Somebody might know a simpler way but the tcx to gpx thing is a pain.
Can't you copy directly into the gpx folder in much the same way as tcx files can go into the course folder? I've not used any gpx files. You could upload your file onto mapmyride, save it and then download a tcx copy.

I'm sure I did this. I got some opensource maps and put the file directly into the "Garmin" folder on my 705 using the USB cable. Everything worked hunky dory and all that.
